Byl americkým televizním, filmovým, charakterovým, hlasovým a divadelním hercem, stejně jako spisovatelem, režisérem, hereckým koučem, umělcem, vysokoškolským profesorem a hudebníkem, jehož kariéra trvala sedm desetiletí v televizi. Objevil se jako host na různých country hudbě a talk show. Jeden z nejrušnějších herců v Hollywoodu, který začal svou smluvní kariéru s Universal Studios v roce 1949, kde se setkal s neznámými herci Adams, Piper Julie Laurie, Tony Curtis a Rock Hudson.
